4 kids, 2 dogs, a pop-up camper- and 81 hours on the road...and that's after we've already made it from Michigan to Vermont, and still with a 13 hour ferry ride to look forward to. Good stuff! So far the trip planning is going fairly well. We found a good deal on a previously owned camper and made that purchase today. The girls are sooo excited! We'll camp our way across the US, stopping (if all goes well) in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Wisconsin, North Dakota and Montana, where we hope to meet up with our dear friends, the Branches. Then we'll dig out the passports and make our way into Canada, spending a large portion of our trip trekking through British Columbia and the Yukon territory. We'll end up in Alaska around day 10, where we plan to visit more good friends, the Hollinger's, in Anchorage, and then make our way to Homer- hometown of singer Jewel- where we'll catch the ferry. The Tustemena (affectionately known as the "Rusty Tusty") will take us on an overnight voyage to Kodiak, where we will arrive around 11:30 a.m. on July 14th- and that's when the adventure really begins! As of right now, Jerod is scheduled to depart on his first Bering Sea deployment on July 23rd- most likely while the rest of us are still hanging out in a hotel waiting for a housing unit to open up and for our household goods to arrive- the current estimated wait for a house is 30-60 days. But hey, it's Kodiak in July! It will be great fun to have no committments, no schedule, and nothing to do but collect sea glass on Jewel Beach and take the dogs for hikes through Fort Abercrombie. We can't wait.
