Baranov Museum

On the first Friday night of each month, the Baranov Museum offers a children's program relating to the history of Kodiak Island. Last month celebrated the 200th birthday of the museum building, which was originally a store house for sea otter pelts. It has since been beautifully restored and houses a truly wonderful collection of items from Kodiak's history.
Last night the topic was the Katmai eruption of 1912, which occurred about 100 miles from Kodiak, and buried the island under 3 feet of volcanic ash. We saw incredible photos of the island and learned all about what life was like on Kodiak almost 100 years ago. We also enjoyed erupting some volcanoes outside!
