Kodiak

Well, it's been almost a week since we arrived and it has rained pretty much non-stop! Actually, when we got off the ferry on Monday it was warm and sunny, and Tuesday was an absolutely perfect, glorious day. We're hoping to see another of those glorious days soon...but we've been enjoying the island just the same.
We have relaxed on the warm sand of the beach at Monashka Bay, collected sea glass at Jewel Beach, attended a kids' program through the Kodiak Wildlife Refuge and brought home slugs in homemade slug habitats (eww!), gone bowling at Tsunami Lanes and swimming at the base pool, and eaten at nearly every restaurant Kodiak has to offer. We are planning to attend the family roller-skate night next week (that should be funny!) and to go tidepooling over the weekend. Next week Laura and Emily start swim lessons, and by then we should be able to fill our time with unpacking and arranging our new home.
We're staying at the Comfort Inn, one of the islands few hotels, while we wait for our house to come available and our household goods to arrive. We're hopeful to be out of hotel within the next week or so- probably not with any of our goods yet, but at least out of the confines of the room and able to cook for ourselves.
