We left Benson this morning at around 6:45, and headed toward New York to begin the first leg of our journey “North, to Alaska”! (Johnny Horton theme song)
There were tears- 2 years is a long time to be so far away from Gramma and Gump; Uncle Brent, Aunt Amy, Elizabeth and Amelia; Uncle Zig and Aunt Lindsey. Thank goodness we didn’t have to say goodbye to Granny Franny, Grumpa and Aunt April this morning, too! (We suffered through that heartbreaking goodbye back in April)
We left Traverse City last week in a sort of mad-scramble…not really as organized as we would have liked, and in such a hurry that it didn’t really seem like we were leaving for good. We said goodbye to our friends, but did it in what has become our typical, guarded, as-little-emotion-as-possible sort of way. To be sincere just hurts too much. We’ve been surrounded by incredible families these last few years, and we’re so thankful to have had such supportive and caring people in our lives. You know who you are, and we miss you all, already!
The trip to Vermont had been serving as sort of a buffer to the reality that we’re actually moving and not just on vacation. Today it’s all starting to sink in. Today we’re sad.
